The 21st Elojazz festival will be arranged from 7th to 9th August in Oulu at Aittatori festival area. Aittatori offers unigue and relaxed surroundings in the heart of Oulu city for this festival. Please note that maximum 2000 tickets can be sold to the area each evening. We recommend to book your tickets in advance and utilize the special two day "Aittatori passes".
In addition to the Aittatori concerts there are two "club concerts" in Radisson SAS hotel and various free concerts in Jumpru and Radisson SAS. Not to mention the famous "Tatsia ja janssia" childrens jazz concert by Risto Järvenpää in Ainolanpuisto behind the museum.
This year Jazz 20 accociation brings on Saturday evening to Aittatori one of the most popular bands in Scandinavia, the Swedish Bo Kaspers Orkester. Oulu has been awaiting for Bo Kaspers for years and now we will have the band in Elojazz 2009.
On Friday evening Oulu will be a blues stop for Ruf's Blues Caravan - Fresh Blues Tour 2009 featuring three world class blues guitar players: Erja Lyytinen, Joanna Shaw Taylor and Oli Brown.
For jazz enthusiasts Elojazz offers world class bands both on Friday and Saturday. Tight Lines Quartet - Jazz & Fly Fishing opens the Aittatori concert on Friday. This interesting jazz combo is playing and fishing in the Nordics the whole summer with a TV crew. Oulu All Star Big Bands special guest this year will be multitalented Stefan Gunnarsson, a multitalented singer and musician from Sweden.
On Saturday the show starts with Severi Pyysalo, one of the top vibraphone players in the world, and his band the Mokners. He is followed by a Helsinki based sextet Dalindéo playing jazz influenced brazilian music. Last summer Dalindéo was playing as a warm-up band for Carlos Santana in Pori Jazz.
Radisson SAS will be the stage for Elojazz club concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings. On Friday Jazz 20 will bring in cooperation with Oulunsalo Soi festival an Islandic "funk machine" Jagúar to Radisson SAS. This is definitely the most dancable band in the festival!
On Saturday evening the Elojazz club offers unforgettable Eurovision tunes performed by Olli Ahvenlahti (piano), top Finnish jazz musicians and singers Fredi and Hanna-Riikka Siitonen.
Elojazz will also offer free jazz concerts in Jumpru and the terace of Radisson SAS. More information on these concerts will be available on our Web site before the summer.
Elojazz 2009 Saturday main concert is almost sold out. On Friday morning there were only 80 unsold tickets out of 1800. Hurry up, if you want to see Bo Kaspers Orkester, Dalindéo and Severi Pyysalo: The Mokners live on Saturday evening.
